World Mental Health Day 2019

World Mental Health Day 2019

This year’s theme for World Mental Health Day 2019 is Suicide prevention, and on that theme, I have chosen to write about the work of the Samaritans.

“We’re working together to make sure fewer people die by suicide.

Every six seconds, we respond to a call for help. No judgement. No pressure. We’re here for anyone who needs someone”.

The Samaritans offer support to anyone who needs help by email, post, phone or in person. It is free, it is one-to one, it is confidential, and it is open 24 hours per day. You don’t have to feel suicidal to get in touch. Only 1 person in 5 who calls Samaritans says that they feel suicidal. The Samaritans are there to listen, they will not judge you. Everyone’s level of coping, worry, anxiety or stress is different, so no matter how little or large you think your issues are, the Samaritans are there for you. Please don’t be alone,  thousands of people volunteer for this organisation because they care. Many volunteers have needed the Samaritans in the past, so there is understanding and empathy whatever you are going through.

If you are suffering from anything listed below, the Samaritans can help:

  • Feeling low or depressed
  • Feelings of despair, worry, anxiety, stress, loneliness, anger, frustration
  • Excess alcohol or drugs
  • Avoiding friends and family
  • Not attending school, college, uni or work
  • Tearful, Crying Regularly with or without reason
  • Exhausted, insomnia, burn out
  • Finding every day life had to cope with

I am very proud to support the Samaritans because my Gran and Grandpa, Mr & Mrs McMillan, founded the Glasgow Branch in 1960, with my Gran being presented with an MBE in 1981 for her services to this charity. This is her story.

Having grown up with the Samaritan charity, and many fundraising events, I know how  invaluable it is in helping people cope with life’s challenges. The Samaritans answer calls every 6 seconds, with 5 million calls for help every year. They have 201 branches throughout the UK open 24 hours/day, 365 days/year. They have 20000 volunteers.

The Samaritans are there for you whenever you need them. Contact the Samaritans here.

I have a passion for nurturing physical, mental & emotional health & wellbeing, through natural therapies, that is of course how Revs® began. I believe all physical and mental health is inter-related, so it is important to look after yourself holistically. World Mental Health Day raises awareness of the gravity of mental health issues and I hope by sharing this journal entry that it will help to encourage talking, sharing, counselling and supporting each other. You can use the Samaritans for yourself or if you are worried about someone you know.

In Health,

JEN, FOUNDER OF REVS®
